The Writers Guild of America went on strike effective 12:01 a.m. May 2 after contract talks broke off with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. Among the key issues is pay. As content has become more prolific in the streaming era, the guild has argued that the median pay for writers has decreased. The last writers strike lasted 100 days and happened in 2007-08, upending Southern California’s production economy.
